As the role of the County Offices of Education continues to evolve, this conference is dedicated to providing COE board members with the tools and information to empower them to be effective elected education leaders. This year’s sessions will address governance during challenging times, focusing on the unique responsibilities that differentiate county school board members from district board members. Be inspired as you leave with new ideas for serving students.

Governing boards across the state are under siege with unruly parents and community members angry over COVID-related issues (masks and vaccines), ethnic studies issues, and more. As a result, board members and staff are threatened and often feel unsafe during these public meetings. This session will discuss best practices for addressing and preventing this behavior at your board meetings; de-escalation techniques when chaos begins; and how to ensure Brown Act compliance throughout it all.
