As the role of the County Offices of Education continues to evolve, this conference is dedicated to providing COE board members with the tools and information to empower them to be effective elected education leaders. This year’s sessions will address governance during challenging times, focusing on the unique responsibilities that differentiate county school board members from district board members. Be inspired as you leave with new ideas for serving students.

As the Legislature shifts the focus of differentiated assistance (DA) to prevention, county offices of education will have a greater responsibility for reducing the number of districts requiring intervention. Given that 70 percent of students with disabilities are also identified in one or more student groups identified for DA, aligning general and special education programs is imperative to improving student outcomes and thus avoiding DA. SMCOE leaders will share how their Center for Access and Engagement is helping districts align their general and special education programs to address all students’ academic and social-emotional needs.
