Efforts to improve equity in California’s small and rural districts face unique challenges and barriers. This session will provide an overview of the California Department of Education’s process for monitoring and supporting racial and ethnic equity specific to small and rural districts. Participants will be introduced to a method for programmatic improvement that applies a cultural equity lens to improve outcomes for under-served students. Resources and tools include a template for reviewing and revising policies, practices, and procedures contributing to disproportionate effects. Expert Technical Assistance Facilitators will share opportunities and strategies successfully implemented in small, rural districts.
